850 S. Broadway Walnut Creek
A couple of years ago we learned that the restaurant Vic Stweart’s would be closing to make way for a new retail development, Historic Walnut Creek Station House, which is almost complete as you can see in the above photo. During the demolition process you could actually see the Southern Pacific rail car before it was shipped off to the Martinez Historical Society museum.
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Industrious, a New York-based coworking and private office space company, is coming to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek by year-end. One possible location is on the second floor where the Lululemon and L’Occitane building is located although that has not been confirmed. According to their Bay Area location webpage, prices in San Francisco start at $500+ for a community membership and $900+ for a private office so stay tuned for pricing in this suburban location…

1532 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Walnut Creek
Plans for a new mixed-use retail/restaurant plus 30 condo unit building are well underway for a prime downtown Walnut Creek spot right between Z Gallerie and Slice House where Walnut Creek Automotive used to be. In addition to the condominiums, the four story building will include 9,000 square feet of retail space, a rooftop restaurant and two levels of underground parking. This does mean the outdoor Slice House patio will have to close. Stay tuned…

McDonald’s closed almost four years ago in downtown Walnut Creek and as you can see from the above photo demolition has taken place and a new mixed-use 5 story development is being built with over 10,000 sf of retail shops and close to 100 apartments, some of them being “flexible-use studios”. Look for this to be completed by the end of next year!

1716 Lofts, a new mixed-use development with 48 apartments over 2,500 square feet of retail space is going up next to the brick J. Rockcliff Realtors in downtown Walnut Creek. Check out the renderings on the architect website here.

Part of the North Main/Ygnacio Valley Specific Plan calling for development of mixed-use residential buildings, the 1716 Lofts project includes 48 apartments with over 2,500 SF of ground floor retail space and parking.
The housing element includes an enclosed, podium courtyard that acts as a passive retreat, configured to provide a central water feature flanked by two outdoor rooms. As gathering and conversation areas, these spaces are equipped with fire tables and lounge seating. A water wall greets visitors as they exit the elevator and directs them to the interior space, screened from 3rd floor windows by a bamboo green wall. Additional space on the rooftop includes a terraced garden, rooftop viewing room, a fire table lounge, outdoor kitchen, large sitting bar, TV lounge, and a multi-use activity space that can be used for community gathering, cooking, dining, sports watching, etc.
I was walking near Morucci’s deli on Boulevard Way in Walnut Creek when I passed by a sign for Saranap Village. First proposed back in 2014, it has gone through various updates until the project was approved last year. It will feature up to almost 200 apartments/condos, a supermarket, coffee shop, sit-down restaurant and wine bar. As you can see in the above photo development has yet to start. In 2015 we learned about a new apartment complex called The Landing breaking ground near the Walnut Creek BART station and as you can see in the photo above it’s almost finished, with a new name, Live at Vaya. Check out the floor plans here. The most expensive two bedroom apartment, at a little over 1100 sf goes for over $5000/month. Check out the amenities here, which includes a swimming pool and spa with cabanas, rooftop clubhouse, community garden, gym, yoga studio and more.
Towne Center, Lafayette
For the last few years we’ve been following the progress of the Towne Center condominiums in downtown Lafayette next to the BART station and as you can see in the above photo it looks basically finished. According to the website it’s priced from $949,000 – $1,188,252. Check out the nine floor plans here.
