Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
The Walking Company, which has been in a couple of different spots at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, has closed. Check out the Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton for the nearest open location.
Back in April, I predicted a battle where restaurant patios packed with people during the Coronavirus pandemic would go up against rules explicitly banning outside dining. Now that Contra Costa is back in the purple, “widespread” tier, the battle has begun as some restaurants rebel against these orders. According to this NBC Bay Area news article, some restaurant owners, such as Kick N Mule in Danville, are continuing to allow outdoor dining on their patios.
Should restaurants be allowed to offer their patios and outdoor dining areas for eating?

Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
Thanks to everyone who emailed that Cost Plus World Market is closing at Plaza Escuela in downtown Walnut Creek. 20% – 40% off everything so far. Browsing this store was always interesting and fun, especially when my kids were small so I’m saddened to see it go. 😔

Sad news as Bierhaus, the German-inspired restaurant and beer hall which opened about a year ago, closed in downtown Walnut Creek. I really enjoyed dining there and hope they come back in the future. Thanks to all who emailed about this.
After many months of East Bay schools keeping children home to deal with remote learning, they’ve decided that now, with about 200,000 new daily cases and more people who’ve died in a day than who perished on 911, would be a good time to convince parents to send their children back to school once back in the Red Tier. That’s funny, because when I think of RED, I don’t think safety. Red means stop, red means danger.
And once children are back in school, they’ll get to enjoy school life wearing masks all the time, physically separated from their classmates, eating cold lunches in the chilly outdoors with no bus ride home. Sounds like a real blast to me.

In July we learned that Main Street Rags would be relocating within downtown Walnut Creek next to Lettuce and their signage is now up.

Thanks to those who sent word that the Walnut Creek DMV closed for good last month. According to the East Bay Times a new office will open in Pleasanton and stay tuned for a, “multi-family apartment complex on the lot” in the future. Check out the Concord DMV for a nearby office.
Rheem Valley Shopping Center, Moraga
An F45 Training gym is “coming soon” to Rheem Valley Shopping Center in Moraga where Mycra Pac used to be. Check for updates on their Facebook page here and find out more about F45 workouts here. According to one Facebook post, the owner has been a certified trainer since 2013, became Head Trainer of Orangetheory Fitness Palo Alto and, “previously owned and operated F45 Training San Mateo for 4 years (ranked top 5 worldwide)”.
