Last December we learned that 54 Mint would be opening a new location in downtown Walnut Creek and they are now scheduled for a May 1st opening. This will be an Italian style bakery (Pasticceria) and pizzeria serving breakfast and lunch until 7pm.
I checked out a preview of the menu and it includes sweet breakfast items such as “Brioche with pastry cream and fruit”, “Cannoli puff pastry with pastry cream”, savory breakfast items such as “Pizza sfoglia (puff pastry pizza) with ham and cheese” and “Pizza sfoglia eggs and pancetta”. For lunch, rectangular pizza slices will be available based on a focaccia crust with various toppings. I tried a piece of focaccia there and it tasted great, can’t wait to try this place out! Desserts such as tiramisu and “panna cotta with berries” will also be available.
Take a look at a sneak preview inside:
Back in January I noted that a Tesla showroom would be opening in the former Lacoste clothing store in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and the signage is now up preparing for a May opening. So even though half of Broadway Plaza is closed for redevelopment it’s good to see a new store especially Tesla opening up here.

The Liberty Bell Kiosks that opened with high hopes a couple of years ago (near the restaurant Il Forniao) and that have been empty for a while now have finally been removed freeing up space to enjoy the fountain.
Driving on Moraga Rd. in downtown Lafayette over the weekend I noticed three glass murals on the side of Itrim in La Fiesta Square. They are the work of the Ellen Blakeley Studio in Santa Rosa.
From her website:
Working as a professional ceramist in 1993, Ellen stopped one day to pick up the glass from a shattered bus shelter in her San Francisco neighborhood. Vandals had shot out the glass with BB guns; it lay in glittering heaps on the asphalt. Already versed in the art of mosaic, Ellen started experimenting with the tempered glass, soon realizing that the transparent surface would lend itself to endless design opportunities. Her discovery led her into the reflective world of glass mosaic, utilizing her fine art sensibility to illuminate the transparent glass with color, rhythm and texture.
If you have a moment in La Fiesta Square I encourage you to drop by as they look incredible especially when the sun is reflecting, giving it a shimmering glow.

The entry is on the side of the house and there is an outdoor patio in back with additional seating in a different building behind that. Diablo Dish has more about the opening here.
