This week we learned about new condos going up in Lafayette; plenty more new construction of houses, condos and rental apartments are going up in the East Bay as well. Right now, considering the housing and rental markets, is it a better time to rent or buy?
Lafayette Juniors 16th Annual Kitchen Tour for Charity:
Lafayette
Saturday, May 16th, 2015
10:00am – 3:00pm | $40Tickets are on sale now for the Lafayette Juniors 16th Annual Kitchen Tour. This self-guided tour will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 10am to 3pm and will feature six special Lafayette homes with beautifully designed classic, traditional, contemporary, transitional, and modern cottage kitchens, and a mid-century modern kitchen recently featured in Houzz “Kitchen of the Week.” Attendees will receive a Kitchen Tour program detailing all the special design elements of the kitchens as well as information on the architects, designers and contractors who created these spaces.
Proceeds from this year’s event benefit the work of five local non-profit organizations: Ruby’s Place, Boys & Girls Club of Diablo Valley, Las Trampas, Trinity Center Walnut Creek, and VESTIA. These organizations were selected by the Lafayette Juniors for the support they provide to children, families and seniors in need in Contra Costa and neighboring East Bay counties.
“In preparation for our 16th annual Kitchen Tour, I am reminded of what’s possible when we come together to raise funds for charity,” said Laura Lashinsky, President of the Lafayette Juniors. “We would like to thank everyone who is helping to make this year’s Kitchen Tour possible, from our sponsors and donors, to our generous homeowners who are opening their homes to us all. We are lucky to have a home on this year’s Tour that was featured in Houzz ‘Kitchen of the Week.’” To see a sneak peak of this kitchen, visit http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/28547920/list/kitchen-of-the-week-modern-update-for-a-midcentury-gem

A couple of weeks ago I was passing by the Walgreens being developed in downtown Lafayette when I spotted this water leak right behind the fence. Although it’s hard to tell from the photo it was GUSHING water. I called EBMUD to report it so hopefully the leak was fixed.
Now we learn that California is imposing a 25% reduction in water usage. SFGATE reports that EBMUD is, “considering a drought surcharge of 25 percent on average on all users so that it can buy additional water” as well as “considering imposing excessive-use penalties on customers who consume four to six times as much water as average.”
Do you plan on reducing water usage? If so, how?

Last June we learned of a new condominium complex coming to Lafayette called Woodbury and construction is well under way with an expected completion date of late spring.
From their website:
Woodbury, the new residential enclave in the heart of Lafayette, was conceived to encourage elevated and convenient living. It is centrally located just a short five minute walk from downtown Lafayette. A community of 36 new luxury Garden Flats and 20 Terrace Condominiums, many with views of Mount Diablo, Woodbury represents a rare and special opportunity to own new construction in Lafayette.
Woodbury is scheduled to open and commence sales in late Spring 2015.

Last July we learned about updated plans for Walgreens and Whole Foods at the Encina Grand shopping center in Walnut Creek and construction has now begun on the new Walgreens and is expected to open by October, 2015 according to the owner Regency Centers. This is also when the old Walgreens will close. Note that although Walgreens and Safeway will occupy newly constructed buildings, the small buildings in-between will not be demolished. There will only be a new facade added to the front. Thanks to a reader for sending updated construction photos.
