Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III, spotted next to Target in Walnut Creek.
From a reader:
Are you aware of the proposed homeless shelter at the Armory located at 1800 Carmel Drive in Walnut Creek? I hope you can help raise aware of this proposal as I am shocked City leaders have not taken extra efforts to ensure the residents most impacted by the proposal were properly notified and given opportunities to voice concerns. I feel that more effort should have been made to make this proposal transparent.
I have been a resident of Walnut Creek on Carmel Drive for over 5 years…I paid a premium for my property because I felt the neighborhood was safe, and because I value the walkability of downtown.
Having reviewed the proposal on the Trinity Center website (trinitycenterwc.org), I have several concerns:

On Tuesday September 1st, 2015, the Contra Costa County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested 66 year old Walnut Creek resident Marshall Pfeiffer for possession of child pornography, in violation of California Penal Code section 311.11(a).
The arrest stems from an investigation conducted by members of the task force which consists of Detectives from the Walnut Creek, Martinez, Pittsburg, Brentwood, Moraga, Concord, Pleasant Hill and San Ramon police departments, along with investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, Probation and the District Attorney’s Office, and with assistance from federal law enforcement.
On September 1st, 2015, the task force executed a search warrant in the 100 block of El Camino Corto in Walnut Creek. A search of the residence yielded files of child pornography stored on a computer. As a result of the search warrant, Pfeiffer was arrested and booked at the Martinez detention facility. Pfeiffer recently retired from the Acalanes Union High School District where he was a teacher at Acalanes High School in Lafayette. Pfeiffer has been cooperative in the investigation and there has been no evidence to suggest any illegal activity with respect to his career as a teacher. School administrators have been advised of the arrest. Anyone with additional pertinent information should contact the Acalanes Union High School District or the Lafayette Police Department. Any questions regarding the arrest can be addressed to Lieutenant Lanny Edwards at the Walnut Creek Police Department at 925-943-5883.

Last December we learned that Susan Foord Cafe was closing in Lafayette near Trader Joe’s and now a new restaurant called Bistro Burger & Grill will be opening there in mid-September assuming everything goes as planned with final inspections. I dropped by and spoke to the owner who said the menu will be more upscale than their four San Francisco locations (check it out here). In addition to burgers there will also be grilled dishes, beer, wine and more. The inside has been completely remodeled with two flat screen televisions and is much more spacious. Stay tuned…
