Artist Call for Downtown Walnut Creek Art Project:
Walnut Creek Downtown’s 2018 Community Service Day project will coordinate community artwork featured on the downtown’s 40 Big Belly waste bins.
WCD will conduct a public artist call to gather artwork which will be displayed in frames (31 7/16” w x 45” h) attached to the sides of the Big Belly’s as well as the back of the paired units, if logical. Artists are encouraged to incorporate recycling messages into their colorful creations as the newest addition to the City’s public art program. The project will be funded by Contra Costa County’s Solid Waste Authority’s Recycle Smart program. Selected artists will be acknowledged by having their artwork displayed on WCD’s website.
The deadline to submit artwork is August 6th, 11:59 pm
Label each submission with artist name and title of work
Artists should upload their submission via Dropbox by emailing their Dropbox link to services@walnutcreekdowntown.com

Every now and then I read about bicycle accidents; Just yesterday a bicyclist was killed on Reliez Valley Road in Lafayette after being hit by a big-rig truck. I mostly ride on trails without cars if possible although I have noticed more bike lanes out there. However, there are some roads without dedicated bicycle lanes, like winding Moraga Rd. between Lafayette and Moraga which seems rather nerve-racking.
How do you handle bicycle riding? Are there some streets you won’t ride on? Is riding on the street becoming more or less safe?

Campana Music in Lafayette is having a “store closing sale”. The window signage indicates they have been in business since 1947.

The Veranda, Concord
The all you can eat SoCal-based shabu shabu restaurant Shabuya is coming to The Veranda in Concord and their Coming Soon signage is now up. Check out their menu here. Interesting that wagyu beef is included in the all-you-can eat option as I thought that was one of the most expensive items on a menu. I look forward to trying this place out since I love shabu shabu.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
In March we learned that Soft Surroundings, a St. Louis-based women’s catalog retailer would be coming to Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and the coming soon signage is now up next to Aldo and although their website still indicates a fall opening, the signage that is up now points to a winter, 2018 opening. Check out their online catalog here.

100 Railroad Ave, Danville
In the spring we learned that Coffee Shop would be opening in Danville where Crafts Creamery used to be and they have now opened. Check out their Danville menu here.

The home decor and gift store Transitions is closing in Lafayette according to a sign in the window. Although you wouldn’t know it from the storefront, according to the yelp reviews there is a hair salon in back. I’ve walked by there dozens of times and had no idea it was also a salon.
