The other day my kid asked for a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. Have you ever heard of such a combination? I love PB&J sandwiches and I suppose peanut butter goes well with almost anything, but pickles?! I do like pickles with a deli sandwich on occasion. Do you like pickles? Do you crave them? Sour or half-sour?

Diablo Symphony and Diablo Ballet Present: Family Concert: Dance:
Lesher Center for the Arts
1601 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek
Sunday, April 14th, 2019
2:00pm | $35The Diablo Symphony Orchestra is delighted to join forces with Diablo Ballet on April 14 to present a concert the whole family will enjoy. In a program celebrating dance, audience members of all ages will be invited to move – and maybe even clap out loud – to rhythms of the waltz, the polka and Russian folk dance. Dancers will bring cats and unicorns to the stage, and the orchestra will transport imaginations to a village fair with gypsies, masqueraders and a dancing bear. Classic ballet selections featuring dancers from Diablo Ballet include Tchaikovsky’s “Pas de Deux” from Swan Lake and “Puss in Boots” from Sleeping Beauty. Under the direction of Matilda Hofman, the orchestra will perform the universally loved waltz from Sleeping Beauty as well as selections from Igor Stravinsky’s brilliant ballet Petrushka. Capping off the celebration, a surprise guest conductor will lead the orchestra in Strauss’s exuberant “Tritsch-Tratsch Polka”.

Hartz Cafe, featuring crepes, ice cream and coffee, opened this week on, can you guess, Hartz Ave. in Danville, where BlooGrape Organic Sworls used to be. I don’t see any social media presence yet but crepes and ice cream sure does sound delicious as summer approaches.

Lafayette Clocktower
A cute, new children’s boutique called Myara opened recently in the Lafayette Clocktower where the piece. store used to be. This boutique features clothing, shoes and accessories all designed by the owner (a local Lafayette resident) and produced by partner seamstresses in Turkey. This Saturday, April 13th they are hosting a free “make your own bunny ears” Easter event so if you have little kids and are in the area I highly recommend you drop by to check out their shop to see the gorgeous products they offer and meet the designer/owner.
From their website:
Myara is a children’s boutique based in Lafayette, California (in a family town outside San Francisco). We design our own clothes. Our head designer, Sunny, designed for top brands and always wanted to create a boutique where family members could come, sit, have coffee, connect, and start a fresh chapter of their child’s lives with a piece that speaks to them.
After starting a family in the town she found home, she created that boutique and named it after her grandmother, Rya. Myara is a place where mothers and their children to deeply enjoy one of the blessings of childhood: dressing your child. Rather than filling rack after rack, Myara is a place to sit, have coffee, let your child play in the playhouse, and connect. Let us get to know your needs and the story that your child’s tells. Let us show you what sets our pieces apart. And, we can always make something just for your little one.

The Napa-based restaurant and wine shop Bounty Hunter opened this week in downtown Walnut Creek, next to Va de Vi. Check out their menus here. One reader emailed that they “expanded the menu quite a bit from what they serve at the Napa location. Some additional wine bar ‘snack’ items, salads, and seafood selections in addition to their signature barbecue.” I look forward to checking this place out!

The beer list is a selection of domestic and international craft beers.

The Veranda, Concord
As you can see from the above photo the Barnes & Noble signage is up at the Veranda shopping center in Concord. Although the property manager mentioned a scheduled April opening this month, when I looked inside they’re still working on the flooring and it’s completely empty inside so they’re going to have to hurry up to get this open this month. With Yard House restaurant opening at the end of the month I shudder to thinking about the parking situation in this area…
