Back in October I posted a Friday question of the day about the Lafayette Terraces plan to bring an apartment complex for moderate income families to the corner of Pleasant Hill Rd. and Deer Hill Rd. in Lafayette. That plan was rejected by the Lafayette design review commission and now an alternative plan that calls for 44/45 single family houses has been offered. Detailed information about the alternative plan can be found on the City of Lafayette’s website here.
In addition to the single family homes there will be a separate parcel owned by the city for public use with a soccer/lacrosse field, dog park, playground, parking lot and a multi-use trail. It seems there will not be any concrete traffic improvements made with this alternative plan although I imagine traffic wouldn’t be as bad as compared to a large apartment complex with hundreds of units.
If this alternative plan is rejected then it looks like this will go to the courts to get the original 315-unit apartment complex built. With that being said, do you support this alternative Lafayette Terraces plan for single family homes with a separate public space for city residents to use?
There will be a public meeting about this alternative plan on January 22nd at Veteran’s Memorial Building (3780 Mt Diablo Blvd) at 7pm where you may comment and give your opinion.

The wait is finally over as long-anticipated Roam Artisan Burgers opened its newest location in downtown Lafayette in La Fiesta Square yesterday. Knowing it would be packed I couldn’t resist and dropped by with my family last night to try their renown Heritage burger with “Applewood smoked bacon, Fontina, butter lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions and herb mayo” and salted caramel milkshake and was thrilled to have found a delicious, cool and reasonably priced burger joint in the Lamorinda area. Not as fatty as other burgers I’ve had nearby, the toppings are some of the tastiest I’ve had, as was the bun which was outstanding as well. The shake was so addictingly good I would feel guilty for drinking but they offer a child size which saved me. Yum! They also offer a nice selection of craft brews and wine. Check out their menu here.
The inside design looks incredible with plenty of wood and warm lighting thanks to exposed bulb pendants. Note that you first place your order at the cashier, get a number and then sit down at a table, the bar or a really long communal table and your food and drinks will be brought directly to you. Roam Artisan Burgers is open everyday from 11:30 am – 10 pm.

Check out more photos after the jump…

The recently opened Caroline’s Salon in La Fiesta Square in downtown Lafayette is sporting new signage, check it out.

The wait is almost over as Artisan Roam Burgers is opening later THIS week in downtown Lafayette according to the owner. As you can see from the photo above the signage is up. I peeked inside and it’s looking awesome. I can’t wait to finally get to try out one of these burgers!

Back in May I noted that Roam Artisan Burgers was planning to open in October in La Fiesta Square in downtown Lafayette and according to Lamorinda Weekly they now plan on opening by Christmas. Check out their menu here.

4:30pm – 7:30pm | FreeJoin us in the amphitheater for some awesome astronomy fun!
As evidenced by the title of this event, we originally intended to view the Comet ISON. As of this moment, the status of ISON cannot be confirmed, however most scientists agree that up to 90% of ISON was destroyed when it grazed the sun on Thanksgiving Day. So, viewing ISON may not be in the cards for us any longer, however, we still have a fun night of amazing stargazing in store.
This event will include these not-to-be-missed activities, designed for all ages:
*4:30-7:30 Telescope viewing. In our outdoor amphitheater, Mount Diablo Astronomical Society will be on hand with telescopes to view Venus, Jupiter, the Moon and more!
*Saint Mary’s professor and astronomer Dr. Ron Olowin will also be in the amphitheater to discuss what the heck happened to this comet that was once deemed the “comet of the century.”
*A computer simulation of ISON’s demise.
*Fun comet craft for the kids.
*Free tasty treats for the first 100 attendees.
Free!
No reservations necessary.

Back in August I noted that Cold Stone Creamery was closing to make room for Smitten Ice Cream and Smitten is definitely opening in this location. Right now the inside is completely bare but the Smitten plans are visible in front.
From the La Fiesta Square website:
We are excited to announce that Smitten Ice Cream is coming to La Fiesta Square.
Smitten Ice Cream uses the freshest and purest ingredients to freeze each batch of ice cream to-order, from scratch, in 60 seconds with the help of patented, liquid nitrogen-enabled Brrr™ machines.
It’s new, old-fashioned ice cream — and we know you’re going to love it.
Look for more details regarding opening date soon. In the meantime, we invite you to watch this video, which tells how Smitten Founder Robyn Sue Fisher turned her passion for ice cream into this unique ice cream business.
