Moraga Community Faire this Sat. May 12th

The Moraga Community Faire will be held at the Rheem Valley Shopping Center this Saturday, May 12th starting at 11am. In addition the entertainment listed below, there will be a classic car show and wine tasting. From the Moraga Chamber of Commerce website:

Annual Creek Cleanup in Walnut Creek on May 12th

From the Friends of the Creeks website:

Join us for the 23rd Annual Creek Cleanup on Saturday, May 12. Meet at the gazebo in Civic Park at the corner of Broadway and Civic Drive in downtown Walnut Creek.

Continental breakfast at 8:45. Registration at 9:00.

ALL PARTICIPANTS must have a waiver form. Click here to download a form and get more details about the cleanup.

Campolindo Edges Out Miramonte as Best High School in Lamorinda & Walnut Creek

The US News & World Report has come out with their latest high school rankings, and Campolindo High School in Moraga has come out on top in Lamorinda and Walnut Creek, just edging out Miramonte High School in Orinda. The rankings for the Acalanes Union district can be viewed here, and for California here.

State Rankings

#20 – Campolindo (Moraga)
#21 – Miramonte (Orinda)
#51 – Acalanes (Lafayette)
#92 – Las Lomas (Walnut Creek)
#227 – Northgate (Walnut Creek)

Northgate received a silver medal while all Acalanes Union high schools received a gold medal. Nearby Dublin High School was ranked #4 in California but that may be an error as it shows a 7:1 student/teacher ratio which seems too low for a public school.

Imagining Downtown Lafayette in the 1950s

These two stores are located right in downtown Lafayette on Lafayette Circle. Reminds me of what downtown would be like in the 1950s, during a quiet, simpler time. Anyone remember the 50s? Was this what it was like? Or is this closer to the 60s-70s?

We Olive Walnut Creek is offering a cooking class on Pickling, Preserving and Curing this Wed. May 9th from 6pm – 7:30ish:

Few of us know yet the beauty of perserving our foods. It is a tradition and technique that we have been living off of for thousands of years. Take this journey with us as we learn about Salt Curing, Pickling with amazing Vinegars and Perserving our fruits of the summer.
