1613 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
Phoenix Salon is relocating to the new apartment complex at 1716 N. Main Street in downtown Walnut Creek. They are currently closed due to Covid-19 but are planning to open there as soon as possible. Check out their services here. It looks like COVID-19 testing is available at their old location for the time being.
To support the Walnut Creek Downtown Association, check out the Go Fund Me charity campaign here.
From the Walnut Creek Downtown Association:
For the first time in the 20-year history of Walnut Creek Downtown (WCD) we are faced with a severe budget shortfall. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to cover the loss of our 2020 revenue and to help sustain the organization during Covid-19. Have you ever attended Walnut Creek First Wednesday’s or Oktoberfest? How about Walnut Creek Uncorked or Holiday Stroll? These beloved, long-running Walnut Creek events generate 70% of Walnut Creek Downtown’s income and drive significant foot traffic and sales to the downtown.
Walnut Creek will be back stronger than ever. But right now, we need your support now more than ever. Every contribution will go towards providing valuable services to our community-just as we’ve been doing for the past 20 years.
Over the weekend I saw a large contingent of Black Lives Matters protesters march down Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek as they formed a circle in a couple of different sections at Broadway Plaza as they shouted in a megaphone to keep the Black Lives Matter movement alive.
A couple of days ago Contra Costa County passed an emergency ordinance to issue fines for Health Order Violations. Read the ordinance here. Check out all the health orders here.
From the PR:
For health order violations involving non-commercial activities, the amount of the fine is $100 for a first violation, $200 for a second violation, and $500 for each additional violation within one year of the initial violation. For violations involving commercial activity, the amount of the fine is $250 for a first violation, $500 for a second violation, and $1,000 for each additional violation within one year of the initial violation. If a violation continues for more than one day, each day is a separate violation.
Broadway Pointe, Walnut Creek
Last month we learned that the Broadway Pointe parking garage in downtown Walnut Creek was going to start charging for access, and now we know by how much. They offer the first 30 minutes free. How generous! 2-4 hours is $10 and 5+ hours will set you back $30. Which private parking lot will be the next to start charging…
Over the last few days, the number of coronavirus infections has reached triple digits in Contra Costa and even higher around the country, so, many places have unfortunately had to pause their reopenings. With so many restaurants opening outside on patios, in the streets etc, do you find it hard to walk around while still maintaining the recommended six feet social distancing?
Well, it was fun while it lasted. As more and more people head to downtown Walnut Creek as shops continue to open, the free parking holiday will be ending soon, with parking enforcement returning on July 1st. Over the weekend I saw these Welcome Back flyers on car windshields throughout downtown Walnut Creek. I smiled when I saw the text at the bottom, “This is NOT a Parking Ticket”. Who could possibly think this is a parking ticket after reading this?!
I noticed this “CREDIT CARDS ONLY” sign at the Broadway Pointe parking garage in downtown Walnut Creek. The toll booth was open but does anyone know how much they’re going to charge and whether there will be any free parking included like the three hours that Broadway Plaza offers? Or are they going to choose what La Fiesta Square did in Lafayette and offer NO free parking whatsoever? Is this the end of the road for free parking in downtown Walnut Creek?! 🚗🚘🚗🚘
In response to the George Floyd killing by a police officer in Minneapolis last week, protests have replaced shelter in place life in many cities and towns across the United States and East Bay. In Lafayette, seen in the above photo, protesters took up spots at the corners of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and Moraga Rd. with some cars honking in support. Due to the looting that happened in Walnut Creek the other day, curfews have taken hold not only in Walnut Creek but also surrounding towns including Danville, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda for the next several days. Stay safe!

Over the past month I’ve been ordering masks at varying price points to see which ones I like the best. So far I use N95 masks (left over from last year’s fires) at the grocery store, and basic two layer cloth masks everywhere else, when needed. When we’ll need to return to work, I’ll soon be getting sturdier cloth masks with filter inserts for intermediary protection.
Do you have a favorite brand of mask you wear? How much do they cost? Do they fog up your glasses? What do you like most about them?
