A new downtown Walnut Creek project to bring 24 high-end condominiums, retail stores and a restaurant next to an expanded Alma Park is being proposed by Hall Equities Group which also developed the space right next to this where Habit Burger Grill is located (note the right side in the above rendering). I look forward to seeing which restaurant opens here as well as how this project progresses. This looks really nice.

The Centre Place site originally consisted of a 19,000 SF retail center – a prior conversion of a 1950’s-era auto and tire service facility.

Well here we are as we happily await the 5th Running of the Oakland Running Festival! The has become a huge success with more than 9,000 runners this year and tremendous community support. The
event has generated more than $8.5 million in economic impact and $750,000 for local charities.
We are excited that you will be joining us for this special anniversary year. We are proud of the fact that our event was voted Best of the West for 2013 by readers of Competitor Magazine and recently featured in Runner’s World
. Quite an accomplishment for our little event!
We are gearing up for another great year. We will once again have our center of race day activities in Snow Park, located just off the shores of majestic Lake Merritt. This location provides us plenty of
open green space to provide our runners, fans and sponsors plenty of elbow room as they celebrate their accomplishments.

Back in November I learned that Jalisco Gourmet Burritos had closed and now thanks to a reader tip I have learned that a new Concord-based Mexican restaurant called Taqueria el Molino has recently opened in this Nob Hill Shopping Center location. Their Concord location offers catering while the Walnut Creek location offers sit-down and to-go meals. Check out their menu below. For those who have tried this place, what dish do you recommend?
Last month I noted that a gift shop called ECHO Grove would be opening in Orinda Theatre Square in downtown Orinda and the signage is now up along with a note, “Coming in April, 2014”. Check out their website here.

Dr. Talo will trace their African and Asian origins and explain their critical role in the plantation economies of the 16th-20th centuries and their growth to becoming the global powerhouses they are today. The Cooperage opened a couple of weeks ago and I dropped by for dinner over the weekend and was lucky to snag a small booth without a reservation. Even though it was very early in the evening the place was absolutely packed. Check out the entire dinner menu here. Of course I had to try the Cooperage Burger “Angus burger, lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion jam, toasted bun, Kennebec French fries”. Check out those onion rings on top of the burger, delicious! Possibly the best onion rings I’ve ever had. The burger was less fatty compared to what I’ve had elsewhere but quite tasty. At a reasonable $13 I’ll be back for more.
