Yesterday we learned that Alexander Kat Furniture will be closing soon in the Encina Grande shopping center off Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek and right next door Papa Murphy’s Pizza has already closed. According to a sign in the window they are trying to relocate to the Country Wood Shopping Center (also in Walnut Creek) but are “still waiting on a space that meets both the center and our needs”.

A bit late with this but the furniture, accessories, and gift shop Indigo & Poppy Fine California Living opened over the summer in Lafayette. They also offer interior design services. Check out their Facebook page here.
From their website:
Indigo & Poppy sees the beauty in every room. We believe that joy can be found in any well-chosen object—a print with a sense of history, a sofa that invites the best conversations, or a French vase that begs to be filled to the brim with native blooms. Indigo & Poppy weaves beautiful details together to create California elegance…Fresh and Distinctive.

Although this blog initially focused on Walnut Creek and Lafayette it covers nearby cities as well such as Pleasant Hill, Danville, Concord, Lamorinda and more so the tagline, “Walnut Creek – Lafayette & Beyond” seems too WC/Lafayette centric. I’ve been thinking about trying a new tagline but haven’t come up with anything besides “Neighborhood Blog”. “East Bay Neighborhood Blog” seems too broad so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a tagline for this blog to please let me know in the comments or email me at adam [at] beyondthecreek.com Thanks for any suggestions!

Last year we learned that Kaffa Cafe opened in downtown Walnut Creek next to City Hall and now a new cafe featuring roti buns, tapioca milk tea, gelato as well as coffee etc has recently opened at this location. I believe this may be the only place in downtown Walnut Creek that offers roti buns. They offer plain ones, ones covered in chocolate with butter inside, and can even have them add a scoop of gelato inside. I tried a plain one and it was really good; glad the dining choices are increasing around here. A note inside states that you get “30% off your entire order” to January 10th. Check out the menus below.

From an email:
My very large, chubby gray & white male tabby cat has not come home since late Christmas night.
Timothy Leadbelly is an indoor/outdoor cat but has never stayed away overnight before, so I’m worried about him.
He is somewhat shy and has a a tiny meow for such a big boy (unless distressed, in which case he can howl loudly). He is a neutered 8-year-old cat with the typical tabby markings (dark striping/marks on a gray background, with a white chin, chest and paws). Because he can be shy, he may be hiding in the bushes, or under a car or under someone’s home, or in a garage, shed or other enclosed hiding place.
He was last seen at home late Christmas night in the 2600 block of Jones Road in Walnut Creek (between Oak and Parkside, in a complex located next to the Contra Costa Canal Trail). It’s possible he’s near the trail, or hiding or being held by someone in a neighboring condominium complex that I think he sometimes visits, perhaps for extra snacks now that I’m preventing him from raiding his sister-cat’s bowl of chow so frequently.
Thanks for reading and for any information or leads you might be able to offer. I can be reached at pmartersteck@hotmail.com

Thanks to a reader for sending word that Alexander Kat Furniture is closing in the Encina Grande Shopping Center in Walnut Creek on Ygnacio Valley Road. The sign in the window says “80% off on selected items”.
Previously we learned that this shopping center will be completely remodeled anchored by Whole Foods which will replace Safeway which is moving across the street.

Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas with family and friends! Safe travels to those on the road.
Moraga Farmers Market
Moraga-based organic farm Hollie’s Homegrown recently started offering their culinary herbs/salts, herbal tea, honey, and healing oils for sale at the Moraga and Walnut Creek farmers market in the Shadelands business park. They can also be seen at the Fort Mason farmers market in San Francisco. Last week was their last day of the season but they’ll be back in Fall, 2015. Interestingly they are a finalist for the Martha Stewart “American Made” Awards. Check out their Facebook page here. I tried their lemon verbena tea leaves and it was really good!
From their website:
