Willows Shopping Center, Concord
Ike’s Sandwich Shop is coming to the Willows Shopping Center in Concord where Quiznos used to be, next to Road Runner Sports. This 1150 sf location is next to the new road connecting the back and front parking lots so it feels quite different from before the redevelopment. Over the weekend Broadway Plaza posted signs in the fountain area with their Code of Conduct. Those who “refuse to comply with the Code will be asked to leave”. One point stuck out to me as a parent of a young child. Skipping is banned in Broadway Plaza. When my kid is in a good mood, he is incapable of not skipping, so I worry. If I notice him skipping while we stroll through the Plaza, should I say to him, “junior, you’re going to have to cut out the skipping; that’s against the rules, buddy.” Or should I risk getting kicked out as he merrily skips and hops about? Oh, the humanity! 🙂
Walnut Creek on Ice:
Don’t put away those ice skates just yet! Walnut Creek Downtown’s Walnut Creek On Ice is extending its season for one more week through Monday, January 19th. Special family-friendly events are planned at the rink on January 10 and 11.
Located in the heart of Walnut Creek at Civic Park, the rink’s hours of operation are:
· January 12-15 from 3 to 9pm
· Friday, January 16 from 11am to 11pm
· Saturday, January 17 from 11am to 11pm
· Sunday, January 18 from 11am to 9pm
· Monday, January 19 from 10am to 9pmPrices begin at $11 per person including skate rental. Discounted rates are offered for groups, school field trips and scout troop outings of 20 or more. For every skating ticket collected this season, Contra Costa Oncology will make a donation to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
Saturday, January 10: ABC7 News anchor Dan Ashley emcees ‘Skate for Hope,’ 1 to 4 p.m., to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates which helps abused, neglected and abandoned children and youth in foster care in the Walnut Creek community. The afternoon features live music from ‘PUSH’, a hot chocolate bar, raffle prize drawings and more. Special Ice and De La Housaye & Associates are sponsor of this event.
Sunday, January 11: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., families can twirl around the ice with The Peter Pan Foundation’s Frosty & Friends, including Elsa, Olaf and other favorite fantasy characters. Free hot chocolate will be served.

The eagerly awaited restaurant Ramen Hiroshi soft-opened over the weekend in downtown Walnut Creek and will be open for dinner this week. Beginning on January 17th they will be open for lunch as well. Check out their appetizer menu here and ramen menu here. The ramen offerings range in price from $10 – $12 and include tonkotsu, shio, shoyu, miso and tantanmen style. I can’t wait to try this place out! If I don’t have to make the trek to the South Bay for a delicious bowl of ramen I’ll be very happy. 🙂

Last July we learned that Inge’s Footwear would be relocating within downtown Walnut Creek near Kaiser Permanente but it turns out that the owner also owns Mephisto a few blocks away next to Ike’s and will be consolidating their footwear there sometime in February. Check out their website here.
