100 Places, 100 Faces – Community Art Project:
Walnut Creek Library
1644 N Broadway, Walnut Creek
Saturday, October 11th, 2014
10:00am – 12:00pm | FreeIn honor of Walnut Creek’s 100th anniversary, the Walnut Creek Downtown Library is inviting community members to participate in our “100 Places, 100 Faces (100 Years of Walnut Creek)” art project – a large poster mural that the library will display for several weeks. Participants can provide us with a copy of a favorite photo; one of historical significance to them. It can be a picture of family, friends or neighbors; or a favorite local hang out or historic spot from Walnut Creek’s past. Participants can bring their photos the day of the event; or drop them off, mail or email them ahead of time. Those without a photo can participate in the creation of art work and the assembly of the mural. (NOTE: photos are not returnable and should be copies not originals. Contributors must sign a release form granting the library permission to use their image, artwork, or likeness.)
Thanks to a reader for sending the photo above from the Alamo Plaza Shopping Center. According to the Livermore Cyclery Facebook page this location is expected to open in a “few more weeks”. This will be their third location after Livermore and Dublin.
From their website:
Livermore Cyclery is a family-owned bicycle shop in the San Francisco Bay Area, with stores in both Livermore and Dublin, California. Livermore Cyclery maintains a large selection of high quality inventory, emphasizes customer service with precise fittings, and has a large service department staffed by extremely knowledgeable mechanics.
Founded by cyclist and mechanic Steve Howard, Livermore Cyclery has now employed four generations of the Howard family. Livermore Cyclery’s first location opened for business in 1976 in downtown Livermore, followed by a second location in Dublin which opened for business in 1994.

With news that Ebola has been spreading around the world, including the US, and John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek installing Ebola warning signs, I’ve been wondering how things are going to pan out. Are you worried that Ebola will spread to the East Bay or will this peter out over time?

Looks like there’s going to be a huge clock in the Pleasant Hill Clock Tower building on Crescent Drive in downtown Pleasant Hill where the clothing store Atlas & Athena is located. Check out the original, smaller clock here.

Back in May we learned that Pieology Pizzeria was coming to the Crossroads Shopping Center in Pleasant Hill and they opened in late June. Check out their menu here. I wonder how this’ll stack up to Project Pie opening up in Walnut Creek?
Spotted at the parking lot vegetable garden across from the Lesher center in downtown Walnut Creek, the sign says “Love blooms here”. Is the bike part of this art piece?
