Back in November, 2011 Cornology opened in Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek and due to the Plaza’s pending redevelopment they have now closed this location. You can still check them out at their Emeryville location in the Bay Street mall or online here. Check out their flavor list here. According to an update they are looking for a replacement store:
As part of a redesign of Broadway Plaza, Cornology Walnut Creek will be relocating as of January 31. We’re doing our best to find the perfect new location, so enter your email to be one of the first to find out.

Last year I noted the opening and closing of Cafecitos Cafe in downtown Walnut Creek and they are now open for business again! Yesterday I noted another Latin American cafe Sabores del Sur that will be opening soon so I see a trend forming with Latin American cuisine.
With the reopening they also plan to offer beer and wine for sale. You can see the preliminary menu below. Note that the Lomo Saltado sandwich is still available.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that a new South American bakery cafe called Sabores del Sur is opening soon in the PMI Plaza near the Pleasant Hill BART station in Walnut Creek. They currently are a catering company and their products are sold in Whole Foods, the SF Ferry building and elsewhere and apparently their alfajores cookies are quite delicious. Check out more details and photos at their Indiegogo page here:
Now, almost ten years later . . . Sabores del Sur supplies products to 21 Bay Area Whole Foods Markets and 56 other high-end restaurants and markets. We sell our products at the SF Ferry Building and the Alemany and San Ramon Farmers markets. Sabores del Sur, LLC is also an experienced caterer and is capable of doing events from small parties to large weddings.
My cookies (called “alfajores”) have won the hearts and minds of many in and out of the “foodie” community. Professional food reviewers such as Diablo Magazine described my cookies as “Little Bites of Heaven”; and 7 X 7 Magazine crowned them “The Best Cookie on Earth”. It was also #2 on the list of “50 Things to Indulge Yourself Before You Die” (7 X 7 Magazine).
From their website:
I am Guisell Osorio, the owner and chef of Sabores del Sur (Flavors from the South), a rapidly growing food and catering company (founded in 2004). Cooking is my passion, and bringing people together over delicious food has always filled my heart with joy.
Since I was a child cooking next to my grandmother in a small country-kitchen in Chile, I dreamed of sharing her incredible recipes with the rest of the world. It occurred to me even at that young age, the best way to do this would be to have my own restaurant . . . one that would make my “abuelita” (grandma) proud.
Check for updates at their Facebook page here. This looks like a great addition to the Pleasant Hill BART area!

Check out the menu and another sign after the jump….

The backside of Broadway Plaza is looking more and more like a ghost town as the time until the redevelopment begins and now the shoe store Clarks has closed. According to a sign in the window they will reopen in Broadway Plaza in 2016. You can still visit their other stores in the Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton and the Westfield in San Francisco.

Lesher Center for the Arts
1601 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek
Friday, February 7th – Saturday, March 1st, 2014Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, this romantic comedy embodies the spirit of Broadway and follows the relationships of four vivid and legendary characters: Sarah Brown, the uptight “mission doll,” out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she’s been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game.

Thanks to everyone who let me know that Boudin Bakery & Cafe has closed in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek on Wednesday. The yummy sandwiches and reasonable prices made this a favorite place to get a bite to eat. Having read the goodbye sign it looks like they’re trying to return to Broadway Plaza when it reopens in ‘late 2015’.
I’ll let a Boudin fan who wrote in have the last word:
Sadly, Boudin Bakery Cafe has closed due to the Broadway Plaza redevelopment. This store generously donated unsold food for many years to St. Vincent de Paul at St. Mary’s church in WC, and helped many people. Now, because Broadway Plaza has forced out many longtime tenants in order to “redevelop,” the restaurant had to close, as an alternate space apparently was not to be found. Many thanks to the fine folks at Boudin for their generosity over the years! Boudin represents an organization that clearly has the greater good in mind.
