In honor of Walnut Creek’s 100^th anniversary, the Walnut Creek Downtown Library is inviting community members to participate in our “100 Places, 100 Faces (100 Years of Walnut Creek)” art project – a large poster mural that the library will display for several weeks. Participants can provide us with a copy of a favorite photo; one of historical significance to them. It can be a picture of family, friends or neighbors; or a favorite local hang out or historic spot from Walnut Creek’s past. Participants can bring their photos the day of the event; or drop them off, mail or email them ahead of time. Those without a photo can participate in the creation of art work and the assembly of the mural. (NOTE: photos are not returnable and should be copies not originals. Contributors must sign a release form granting the library permission to use their image, artwork, or likeness.)

McCondos Coming to Downtown Walnut Creek

October 7, 2014 8:30 am

1380 N. California Blvd, Walnut Creek

Back in April I noted that McDonald’s would be closing in downtown Walnut Creek this summer and although the timing was off it turns out that they are planning to eventually close to make room for 119 residential units along with 16,323 square feet of retail stores. According to the Walnut Creek city council agenda report, JDC Development and McDonald’s Corporation filed the use permit and design review applications so McDonald’s would still be involved with the development of the condos (or rental units). I wonder what restaurant might end up at this location? Hmm…

Currently the Walnut Creek Design Review commission is recommending denying this development, “with recommendations for acceptable changes to project density, parking, site planning, or other considerations.” Stay tuned…
