Every day, more and more people go maskless indoors, while various rates continue to drop. Is COVID essentially over, with people taking calculated risks that even if infected, it’s no big deal?

100 Railroad Ave, Danville
Last May, we learned that Berkeley based Sliver Pizzeria would be coming to Danville where Coffee Shop used to be, and they have now “soft” opened. Check out their weekly menu here. (They only offer one type of pizza per day).

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Thanks to everyone who emailed that Sur la Table is closing at Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. They expect to close at the end of March, possibly sooner if they sell out. Not too long ago, downtown Walnut Creek had four dedicated kitchen stores, Kitchen Table, Le Creuset, Viking and Williams-Sonoma. Sadly, only Williams-Sonoma will remain, although there is a nice kitchen section at David M. Brian in the basement.

1470 N. Broadway, Walnut Creek
El Charro Mexican Dining opened in downtown Walnut Creek where Maria Maria used to be. This is the same place as El Charro in Lafayette, which closed a couple of years ago, with new owners. Check out the menu here.
From their website:
Welcome to El Charro at its new location in Walnut Creek, CA, where you will experience the great hospitality and some of the delicious Mexican food that El Charro has always been known for. We are excited to pay tribute to this classic restaurant and introduce you to a new era of El Charro. Some of what we do will be the same, much will be different… and it will all be delicious!

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Thanks to a reader for pointing out that the jewelry shop Banter by Piercing Pagoda is coming to Broadway Plaza where NYX Cosmetics used to be, next to Macy’s. Check out their online selection here. Looks like they may offer piercings as well.
The Beyond the Creek blog has been online for over ten years posting about the latest happenings and daily life in much of the East Bay, east of the Caldecott. For most of that time, the community response has been mostly positive and understanding of other viewpoints that people may not agree with. Recently however, community input has devolved more and more into personal attacks and typical trolling behavior seen elsewhere.
With this in mind, I have posted a Community Standards page that goes over what is and is not expected of BtC commenters.
tl;dr don’t be a jerk.

Encina Grande, Walnut Creek
Chase Bank is going to be opening where Applebee’s used to be at the Encina Grande shopping center in Walnut Creek.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Within a couple of weeks of closing at their original Broadway Plaza location, Crate & Barrel has reopened on the first floor of the former Neiman Marcus building, on the other side of the Apple store. Although only one floor, it feels very spacious. I wonder where they’ll relocate permanently?

Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
Nick the Greek, which opened at the Veranda in Concord last fall, is planning to open in another spot where Panera used to be at Plaza Escuela in downtown Walnut Creek. Check out their menu here.
