This week we found out that a new Golden State Warriors store will be opening tomorrow in downtown Walnut Creek, conveniently located right next to the Giants Dugout store. Considering how well the Warriors have been doing it’s hard to find someone who is NOT a Warriors fan. I’ve always liked baseball and enjoy going to both AT&T Park for the Giants and the Oakland Coliseum for the A’s.

McWhorter will offer a wide-ranging presentation on western artists active between 1830 and 1930, and will examine the ways in which art was shaped by (and itself shaped) contemporary perspectives on the American West. This talk will draw its subjects and imagery from the collections of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, and will highlight the work of George Catlin, Thomas Moran, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Remington, and Charles M. Russell, among other renowned artists.

A new art school called Rebel Art School recently opened in Walnut Creek down the street from Monaluna off Mt. Diablo Blvd. In addition to art classes for both children and adults they also offer summer camps and host birthday parties. Find out more on their website here. Town Hall Theatre

7:30pm | $10Sustainable Lafayette presents a special showing of A Plastic Ocean at Town Hall Theatre. Proceeds will go to Town Hall Theatre’s effort to eliminate the use of plastic bottles in our building.
A feature-length adventure documentary that brings to light the consequences of our global disposable lifestyle. We thought we could use plastic once and throw it away with negligible impact to humans and animals. That turns out to be untrue.

I wanted to let you know about a grassroots effort we’re undertaking to stop Lafayette’s March 27 agreement with PG&E to take down 272 trees, 216 which were formerly “protected” under state ordinance. The city is accepting $536K for meridian improvements as part of the deal.
On the site, we link to a petition which has received over 200 signatures in the first 48 hours. Our goal is to raise awareness about PG&E’s plans since they refuse to release a map of planned tree removals. We also want the city to reexamine their approach with PG&E since it would create a catastrophic impact on some neighborhoods.
