Empire Realty Associates Office on Locust St. Closes

According to their maps page, Empire Realty still has an office at 1777 Botelho Drive where the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce is located, but the office next to the Century movie theater has closed as can be seen by the real estate lock box hanging from the door handle. I wonder what will replace it? I believe the actual office was up a flight of stairs so not sure it could be used by a retail store, but the location is great. Although I do worry about how the frozen yogurt place Coco Swirl is doing.

Renditions Art Gallery to Offer Evening Workshops & Classes

The Renditions Art Gallery, located at 1383 N. Broadway in Walnut Creek had its grand opening today and currently features the paintings of Kristan Le, who is also the curator/manager. They plan on offering paintings from local bay area artists and elsewhere, as well as expanding into other art forms such as sculpture in the future. Their inaugural show is called the Small Works Show, which will be on display from Dec 9, 2011 – Jan 30, 2012 with a submission deadline of Dec. 1.

What I found most interesting is that they offer evening workshops and classes, including figure drawing, still life painting, and more. This could become a great community and resource for Walnut Creek and East Bay artists. Kristan was very welcoming when I dropped in so if you’re in the area stop by and check out what they have to offer.

The Paint Palette Closing

I was walking down Locust St. today in Walnut Creek when I noticed that The Paint Palette is closing. Meanwhile a block away Renditions Art Gallery is opening up and will be offering workshops in the evening from what I hear. More on that later.

Cornology Popcorn Store Opens on Broadway Plaza

Recently a new store opened up on Broadway Plaza called Cornology. According to their website:

We bring in the finest kernels the Midwest has to offer. We take those kernels and pop them fresh throughout the day. Then we entice our customers even further by mixing our creations with only the freshest and finest gourmet ingredients that makes Cornology unique and very different.

This is probably one of the more unique stores on Broadway Plaza. Quite a few dessert-related stores have tried to make it at that location and failed, so let’s hope this one can pull through. I’ve had it and liked it a lot. It’s located at 1288 Broadway Plaza right near Macy’s.

Kevin’s Noodle House Opening in December

Pho Huyn Hiep 6, AKA Kevin’s Noodle House, is a Vietnamese restaurant being built at the Pringle Ave. and N. Main St. intersection near Ygnacio Valley Rd. It’s a small chain with a few other locations including Concord and will be open December 10th. Has anyone been to the Concord location?

Citra Grill Opening in Walnut Creek

Diablo Magazine reports that Citra Grill will be taking over the Diva boutique at the corner of Locust and Olympic Blvd, across the street from the movie theater. They write:

It’s an interesting concept from first-time restaurant owner Ramin Behtash, a longtime high-tech veteran from Silicon Valley. Behtash plans to have five centerpiece items on the menu—halibut, shrimp, chicken, steak, and vegetables—that will be flame grilled on bamboo skewers and served on fresh-baked bread.

The public notice of application to sell alcoholic beverages was posted prominently.

Chipotle in Lafayette Open

Chipotle has been open in Lafayette since September, and it looks like it’s a popular place judging by the amount of traffic. Along with the new Whole Foods supermarket, that strip is definitely getting more foot traffic compared to before. It’s interesting how both chains existed in Walnut Creek before migrating over to Lafayette.

Fancy Pants – Closed

Fancy Pants, the boutique women’s clothing and accessories shop, which was located on Cypress St. in downtown Walnut Creek has closed. Interestingly, the For Rent sign notes that the place rents for $1800, anyone interested?

Locust St. Post Office Closing

The post office located on Locust Street will be closing on Friday, November 18, 2011. It’s somewhat unfortunate as it was possible to stroll down there while on the way to the movies etc, but the one on North Broadway will still be open. The question is, what will replace the post office?

Da Lat Vietnamese is Closed

The building that housed both Da Lat and Cinco de Mayo (formerly Taqueria Mexican Grill) is quite changed without the awning (more on that in another post), but word on the street is that Da Lat has closed. I’ve eaten there several times and thought it was pretty decent.

Update: I’ve confirmed that a Chinese restaurant is opening up at this location.
