522 Hartz Ave, Danville
You may recall a few years ago the Bay Area design house Toss Designs opened a temporary popup shop in Broadway Plaza which actually lasted until last year and now they’re back in the East Bay, this time in Danville on Hartz Ave. where Papyrus used to be. This location is also a a temporary popup spot but depending on how things go they may end up permanently in Danville…

Encina Grande, Walnut Creek
There has been lots of progress on the redevelopment going on at Encina Grande on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek. As you can see the new Walgreens exterior on the far end is up as are the neighboring shops next door as shown in the photo below. What a difference compared to how this shopping center looked before.

3737 Valley Vista Rd, Walnut Creek
The rumors have been swirling for years now but unfortunately it’s game over for the Valley Vista Tennis Club and the entire ClubSport center as it is closing on January 31st in Walnut Creek. According to an employee I spoke with it looks like the owners are looking to sell. Considering the head pro left recently along with several other pros this isn’t coming as a complete surprise but this is very disappointing!
What other tennis options are there besides Heather Farms?

Ygnacio Valley Rd. and Oak Grove Rd, Walnut Creek
In March we learned that The Orchards at Walnut Creek shopping center located across from the Encina Grande shopping center was delayed but development is back on track with a sign indicating a fall, 2016 opening. Safeway will be relocating from Encina Grande, along with the gym Crunch, the department store Stein Mart, and Petco. Check for updates at their website here.

20 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette
The vintage furniture shop Farmyard Darlings is expanding from their Mt. Diablo Blvd. location behind the Mt. Diablo Nursery & Garden to the former “Hen House” spot near La Fiesta Square in downtown Lafayette and will be opening this Saturday, September 19th. Check out their Facebook page here.
From their announcement:
Farmyard Darlings is excited to announce an additional venue in Lafayette, California located at 20 Lafayette Circle — formerly “The Hen House” — and will maintain current space on 3295 Mt. Diablo Blvd.
“We are excited to occupy The Hen House not only because its an historic building, but it speaks of a life before this one – of ethics that brings you back to the days when your handshake was your word and when people willingly rolled up their sleeves and worked hard.” – The Farmyard Darlings, Kim & Carole

Last spring we learned that the organic fabric shop Monaluna would be opening on Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Walnut Creek and they will be opening this Wednesday, September 15th. I had a chance to get a preview of the inside and it looks amazing (don’t miss photos of the inside after the jump). In addition to their organic fabrics they also offer clothing from various designers based on Monaluna fabrics as well as jewelry, such as Sägen from Sweden, made from recycled porcelain, greeting cards and other hand-picked items (see some examples after the jump). Check out updates on their Facebook page here. I’ll be back for sure.

576 Center St, Moraga
Moraga Produce opened a few years ago in the Rheem Valley Shopping Center in Moraga but it looks like they are mostly closed. According to the Yelp reviews ownership has changed and it’s been closed whenever I dropped by this week. Peering inside (see photo below) it looks like most of the produce is gone. Yet I don’t see any official sign they’re closed and the carts are still outside. Anyone know what’s going on?
