CREAM Opening Soon on. N. Main St. in Downtown Walnut Creek

Back in January I was the first to note that the Berkeley ice cream shop CREAM (Cookies Rule Everything Around Me) would be opening in Walnut Creek and now the location has been pinpointed to 1372 N. Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek, previously the Contra Costa Democratic headquarters and before that the jewelry store Master Diamond. This is a block away from the recently opened gourmet ice cream shop Lottie’s Creamery as well as Gelateria Naia, not to mention San Francisco Creamery on Locust St. so there will be lots of refreshing choices available this summer.

They also have a contest for a chance to win $50, although the rules they wrote on their Facebook page differ slightly from the note in their window:

Walnut Creek Restaurant Week April 15th – 21st

Check out this year’s participating restaurants for Walnut Creek restaurant week which begins April 15th and runs through the 21st. I wonder what Ottavio will offer. The Va de Vi menu looks enticing.

Walnut Creek Restaurant Week gives local food aficionados and visitors an opportunity to enjoy a prix fixe lunch for $10/$20 and dinner for $20/$30/$40 at participating Walnut Creek restaurants.

How Does a Guest Take Part in Walnut Creek Restaurant Week?
There are no passes, tickets or coupons. Instead, diners simply visit their favorite participating restaurants throughout the week to enjoy the special prix fixe menus. However, it is strongly recommended that diners make reservations in advance by contacting the participating restaurants directly.

Cooperage Bar and Grill Expanding into Storyteller Space in Lafayette

The children’s bookstore Storyteller has been squeezed out of their downtown location and are relocating to a spot behind Peet’s Coffee & Tea, next to Whole Foods in Lafayette to make way for the Cooperage Bar and Grill expansion taking place at the former location of Petar’s. As you can see in the photo below, the wall separating Storyteller won’t be there for long. Look for the Cooperage Bar and Grill to open sometime this summer at Lafayette Circle across the street from Chow.

Ike’s Sandwich Shop in Walnut Creek is Hiring

Judging Restaurants – Lettuce in Walnut Creek

The restaurant Lettuce has been open for several years now in downtown Walnut Creek at 1632 Locust St. near the Lesher Center and I can’t believe this is my first time trying this place out. It’s independently owned with only one location and I will definitely be back for lunch. I ordered the Mission and Soho salads to-go and it was quite yummy. Check out their menu here. They also offer soups and sandwiches. Has anyone tried the sandwiches? What are the must-try items?

Corners Tavern Offering Kids Menu

The restaurant Corners Tavern has been open for a year now in downtown Walnut Creek and I recently noticed they offer a kids menu. Take a look at the kids burger in the photo above, it’s an exact replica of the adult burger which I think is great. Many times kids meals are dumbed down so this was a nice surprise.

Rustic Kitchen Changing Name to Rustic Tavern

In the beginning of March I noted that the restaurant Rustic Kitchen would be opening in downtown Lafayette on Mt. Diablo Blvd. and due to naming conflicts Rustic Kitchen will now be known as Rustic Tavern. They plan on opening in the beginning of April and are looking for experienced staff both in the front and back so if you’re interested check out this Craigslist posting here:

Bakery Cafe Opening Soon in Moraga

The Italian restaurant Mondello’s which closed a few years ago in Moraga next to 24 Hour Fitness is being replaced by a “home/made kitchen cafe & bakery”, opening soon according to a sign in the window. Not sure if that’s going to be the name “home/made kitchen” but what’s the point of the /? I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
