No, not that kind of bar. This one will offer skin waxing services for men and women. Check out the complete list. I don’t think I want to know what a Vajacial is, but they offer that, too. From their website:
Stript Wax Bar is a salon dedicated to the art of waxing. We are devoted to delivering high quality waxing services using the highest quality products in a comfortable and clean environment. That’s why we decided to specialize in doing one thing and doing it well.
Stript Wax Bar is located at 1629 Cypress St, across from Extreme Pizza.
Updated exterior for upcoming Citra Grill restaurant
The Contra Costa Times reported today on how retail vacancy rates have fallen over the past year indicating increased vibrancy in the local downtown Walnut Creek area. They noted that a restaurant Opa will be located next to Prima which I reported on previously and later in the article wrote that
Such examples include the former Delle Stelle building on Main Street currently under renovation for a restaurant
This is the Opa restaurant they mentioned previously. Having casually observed the downtown Walnut Creek retail environment for many years, the one thing that can be said is that it’s always changing, with some stores closing, and new ones taking their place.
At the end of the article they note recently opened stores including La Boulange and the Giants Dugout Store. The small popcorn store in Broadway Plaza store Cornology can also be added to this list. They also note stores that will be opening next year, including a few I need to look into, “Farm to Table Cafe”, and “Nothing Bundt cake”.

Thanks to a reader for writing in about a flash mob by a group of 5th graders at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek yesterday.
Yesterday the shopping at Broadway Plaza was disrupted by some 5th grade girls performing a flash mob!!! They organized themselves, had a couple of practices and executed at 1pm yesterday to the delight and amazement of holiday shoppers. Traffic on the street was stalled as those driving slowed/stopped to watch. The music was from a car on the street in front of the tree.
Did anybody else see this?
When I first saw this bike parking contraption outside Walnut Creek City Hall I assumed it was for city employees, but based on this map that shows BikeLink public secure parking locations it looks like anyone can have access to it for around 3-5 cents per hour. I guess for those with expensive bikes this might be worthwhile. From the BikeLink website:
BikeLink is a secure on-demand parking system for small vehicles designed to make it easier to use transit and other mobility alternatives. It enables convenient and secure temporary storage of your bicycle, electric bicycle, or scooter. It also enables automated vehicle rental.
The map also notes that this is coming to Lafayette and Orinda BART stations soon.
You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Friday at 5 pm.
The Walnut Creek Police Department just reported:
On 12/12/11, at approximately 1920 hours, the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department responded to an apparent homicide in the 2300 block of San Miguel Drive in unincorporated Walnut Creek. Shannon Alexander was arrested at that time and booked in to county jail on suspicion of homicide. Alexander was released two days later and has not been charged with a crime.
As the investigation developed, the Sheriff’s Department learned that the crime likely occurred in the 0-100 block of Oak Knoll Loop in the city limits of Walnut Creek. Since then, the investigation has been jointly shared between the Walnut Creek Police Department and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department.
On Wednesday, 12/14/11, a search warrant was conducted on Oak Knoll Loop in Walnut Creek, where Frank Castro was located and arrested in connection with the homicide. The following day (Thursday, 12/15/11) an additional suspect, Michael Miller, turned himself in to the Walnut Creek police department where he was arrested.
Castro has been released from custody, as no charges have been filed against him at this time. Miller is currently being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on homicide charges. No further information is being released at this time as the investigation is on-going and additional information is still being developed. Press inquiries can be directed to Sgt. Jay Hill on Monday, 12/19.

The Duxiana bed store, (selling high-end Swedish mattresses), located at 1530 Locust St. in Walnut Creek has been closed since July, according to a copy of a handwritten letter posted on the door.
According to the letter, Duxiana stores are open in both San Francisco and Palo Alto, so if high-end Swedish mattresses are your thing, fret not! I think the handwritten letter is a nice touch in this day and age.
