Last June I noted that J. Colleen Boutique would be opening in September in downtown Lafayette where Queen Bee used to be and opening day will be this coming Monday, September 2nd according to a sign in their window. Thanks to a reader for letting me know about the new signage.
From their website:
J. Colleen Boutique is an upscale women’s clothing, jewelry, and gift boutique that will open in September of 2013. We are a special blend of the posh, chic shopping experience of Barneys New York with the treasures of high-end designer consignment. Many of our products will be made from materials found locally and/or sourced from other conscious artists. We will also be offering vintage designer wear.
Local artists, as well as artisans from around the world, will make many of the products that we will be carrying at J. Colleen Boutique. Gift items such as jewelry, upscale vintage-ware, photography, and original artwork will be showcased once a month in a private reception for the artist, their family, and friends. As there are no other shops or boutiques in Lafayette with such an array of artisans, we see a perfect opening to introduce this style of visual and mercantile experience.
Interestingly the owner Julie Rubio is a movie director and producer. Check out her IMDB page here.

Friday, September 6th – Saturday, September 28th, 2013Shrek The Musical, based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to life on stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek. Featuring a terrific score of 19 all-new songs, big laughs and great dancing, Shrek The Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!
Shrek The Musical held an out-of-town tryout at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle from August 14, 2008 to September 21, 2008. It began previews at The Broadway Theatre on November 8, 2008 and opened on December 14, 2008. Directed by Jason Moore and choreographed by Josh Prince, the production featured Brian d’Arcy James, Sutton Foster, Christopher Sieber, John Tartaglia and Daniel Breaker. At the time, it was the most expensive musical to open on Broadway. The show closed January 3, 2010, after 441 performances, 37 previews, and a 12 month Broadway run.
Shrek The Musical is a family friendly show rated PG.
From the Moraga PD:
JAMES JOSHUA JARRARD, the suspect identified in recent crimes committed in Moraga and Lafayette faces criminal charges filed by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. Jarrard is charged with Vehicle Theft (VC 10851(a)), two charges of First Degree Residential Burglary (PC 459/460(a)), one charge of Possessing Stolen Property (PC 496), and misdemeanor resisting arrest (PC 148(a)(1)).
The charges are the result of a joint investigation by the Lafayette and Moraga Police Departments stemming from a series of crimes committed on 08-06-2013. The series of crimes began shortly after 6:00 AM with the theft of a Moraga citizen’s Honda Civic from the front of his residence. A Moraga Police Officer spotted the car on northbound Moraga Rd., just moments after it was reported stolen. After a brief pursuit, Jarrard lost control of the Honda and crashed into a cinderblock wall located at the intersection of Moraga Rd and Rheem Blvd., in Moraga. Jarrard fled the crash scene on foot into a nearby shopping center and ran into the 24 Hour Fitness. Jarrard then ran through the gym and out a rear door before scaling a fence and fleeing into the Carroll Ranch neighborhood. Jarrard eluded officers, including two K9’s from the CCC Sheriff’s Office, initially by hiding in an occupied residence on Dolores Ct. He was quickly discovered by a resident, and then fled to hide in another occupied residence on Josefa Pl., where he remained for some time unbeknownst to the female resident. Jarrard stole several items from the second residence including a change of clothes. Officers continued to search the area for Jarrard, but he was not spotted again until early in the afternoon when he was seen entering the back yard of a Solana Dr. residence in Lafayette. Jarrard burglarized that home and was seen fleeing the area on a child’s bicycle.
Jarrard was identified as the suspect after a security camera photograph from 24 Hour Fitness was circulated to surrounding police agencies. A Walnut Creek Detective recognized Jarrard and advised Moraga and Lafayette investigators. Several eye witnesses identified Jarrard from a police photo lineup and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Jarrard was arrested on other outstanding felony charges by Concord PD after a pursuit in Concord, and the Moraga and Lafayette charges were added. Jarrard’s bail for the Moraga-Lafayette charges is set at $198,000.00. Jarrard is still in custody awaiting trial.
An unidentified accomplice of Jarrard’s is still outstanding and police are asking the public for any information. Please contact Moraga Police Detective Will Davis at 925-888-7057 with any information about these crimes.
331 Hartz Ave, Danville
Diablo Dish reports that a new restaurant will be opening up by the end of February where the British pub The Crown used to be on Hartz Ave. in Danville. The owners also started Esin Restaurant in 1998 which is located nearby this new location (after relocating in 2008). The “gastropub concept” sounds great, can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Spoted this dark gray Lamborghini in front of the movie theater in downtown Walnut Creek on Locust St.
