Last week I noted the appearance of popup kiosks in Liberty Bell Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek where the restaurant Il Forniao is located, across the street from Nordstrom, and the kiosks are now open. According to the popup website, the kiosks are from:

Two kiosks were not open over the weekend. According to the popup website one of them is Cover-Up Accessories so I’m guessing one is vacant for now. I like how small, locally produced items are being sold not available nearby. Of all the kiosks I would most like to try something from Danville Chocolates. What do you think of the offerings?
Being that downtown Walnut Creek is becoming an East Bay fashion and salon mecca, Phoenix Salon & Day Spa is getting remodeled to keep up appearances. This looks great, love the wood accents.

Looks like the yogurt institution Yogurt Castle in downtown Walnut Creek at the corner of N. California Blvd. and Bonanza St. has served its last dessert as it’s been closed for about a month now. The yogurt machines are still inside but I’m not optimistic Thanks to a reader for pointing this out who writes, “It has been there for years, back when the Festival Cinema was where McCovey’s is now and before all the other yogurt options hit town.” Who misses Yogurt Castle? Where is the best frozen yogurt in Walnut Creek?

The baby store The Right Start is closing in downtown Walnut Creek. Located across the street from the Container Store on Botelho Dr, they offered baby goods targeted to babies up to 18 months. They still have a store in San Francisco in Presidio Heights. Apparently the lease was going way up so they’re bailing by the end of the year.
Now for some interesting news. Word on the street is that this will be the new location for the stationery store Paper Source! Possibly opening this coming April. Stay tuned…

Ring in the season with the Walnut Creek Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Lesher Center for the Arts. In addition to seasonal favorites, carols and Yuletide classics, the concert will feature Annie Guo perforning George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” Tickets are available at the Lesher Center for the Arts box office or online. Cost is $17 per adult; buy an adult ticket and get a student ticket for half-price ($6).

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for kidnapping a PG&E contract employee in a parking lot as she left work on November 7 in the Walnut Creek Shadelands area.
On November 7, 2012 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 57 year old female was abducted as she was leaving work and walking to her vehicle in an isolated parking lot. As the victim unlocked her vehicle two suspects ran up to her, forced her into her vehicle, tied her up and blindfolded her. The victim was driven to various locations in an attempt to get money from her ATM accounts.
The victim was driven to an isolated area in the Oakland Hills where she was released. A vehicle with a loud muffler was heard leaving the area. The victim was able to free herself and called 911. Oakland PD responded and sought medical attention for the victim and obtained the initial information. The Walnut Creek Police Department was called to handle the primary investigation since the incident originated in Walnut Creek.
Suspect #1: Described as a white male adult, early to mid 20s, 5’11”, 185/190 lbs, broad shoulders, short dark hair, unknown facial hair. Last seen wearing light colored T shirt under a black zip up colored shirt, jeans, blue or black.
Suspect #2: Described as a white male adult, early to mid 20s, 5’9”, 150 lbs with a slight build. Last seen wearing a mask (form type to below the nose), black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, dark jeans.
Suspect Vehicle: Vehicle with a loud muffler.
The Walnut Creek Police Department is actively investigating this crime. Anyone with information related to this crime is asked to contact the Walnut Creek Police Department Investigations Unit at (925) 943-5868 or (925) 943-5844.
The City of Walnut Creek has approved six popup kiosks at Liberty Bell Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek where Il Fornaio is located at the corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and Broadway. They have recently been installed; check out what they look like in the photo above. According to a new website promoting the kiosks:
Liberty Bell Plaza, will become Pop Up Plaza, and provide an opportunity for retail designers actively looking to enter the Walnut Creek area, but have been unsuccessful in finding an available location. The plaza is designed to be a collection of designers and brands not available in the East Bay. The project will be kept fresh and exciting by limiting the opportunity to one through three month.
The Liberty Bell design incorporated into the kiosk design is a nice touch:

Yesterday I had a chance to drop by the Walnut Creek Ice Rink which is open until January 13th. In previous years I always went in December or January but this time I went early and was amazed at how relatively empty it was, even on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I would definitely recommend checking this out sooner rather than later as it can get extremely crowded!
