From the Walnut Creek PD:
The holiday season is a busy one for law enforcement and Walnut Creek is no different. While WCPD prides itself on our service to the community and there are countless examples of great police work being done, three cases (in the past three days) are highlighted here because of the excellent proactive work by the officers involved.
On Friday 12/13/13, Officers were sent to a large retail store in downtown WC on a report of a fraud in progress. The officer who responded recognized the suspect GAWAD as the same suspect responsible for a fraud at the same store two weeks prior. In the earlier case, GAWAD fled prior to officer’s arrival, but an arrest warrant was obtained for him. On this date, it was determined that GAWAD was attempting to purchase items with stolen checks and he was arrested for burglary and the active arrest warrant. GAWAD also had a large quantity of methamphetamine on his person. VIGIL was assisting GAWAD and in the subsequent investigation, he was found to have a large quantity of methamphetamine indicative of possession for sales, as well as other evidentiary items indicating he was selling drugs. Both subjects were booked at the Martinez Detention Facility (MDF) for the listed charges.
On Saturday 12/14/13, an off duty WCPD officer was shopping at a store in downtown WC when he recognized SCANLAN and knew SCANLAN had an active arrest warrant. The officer called WCPD and then watched as SCANLAN, SPILLANE and GUERRERO began shopping inside the store. Officers arrived on scene and detained the three subjects. The three had several items on them that had been reported stolen approximately one hour prior from a vehicle in downtown WC. One of these items was a credit card which had already been used at several locations in the past hour. In addition, the three had several pieces of false identification, stolen property traced back to a burglary in Concord as well as possession of methamphetamine. All three subjects were booked at MDF for the listed charges.
On Monday 12/16/13 at approximately 0200 hours, WCPD officers stopped a vehicle for a hazardous traffic violation. The license plates on the vehicle belonged on a different vehicle and the subsequent investigation revealed the car (as well as the plates) had recently been stolen out of Concord and not yet reported. The three occupants (MIRACLE, JACOBSON and SAHUGAN) were also in possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine, and stolen property that was traced back to a residential burglary two days prior in Clayton. MIRACLE, JACOBSON and SAHUGAN were booked at MDF for the listed charges.
