The spa Metamorphosis has closed in downtown Walnut Creek at the Mercer apartment complex. There are still quite a few salons on this block and Starbucks opened a few doors down yesterday.

7:30pm | FreeWhether a California native, or a “transplant” such as myself, there is so much to discover about the County in which we all live. We are honored to be hosting four prominent members of the Contra Costa County Historical Society, each of whom will share with us a little about their area of focus within the county.
Each of our presenters are also published authors (see full bios below), and will have a limited selection of their books available for sale that evening.

Back in December I noted that Edwards Luggage would be relocating from the backside of Broadway Plaza to a new Broadway Plaza spot next to Neiman Marcus and they are very close to reopening at this new location. The old location has now closed and now every store on the backside of Broadway Plaza has closed except for Banana Republic, which will open across the street in March.

Last November I noted that Starbucks may be coming to the Mercer and they opened today in the Mercer apartment complex in downtown Walnut Creek. Peeking inside I could see a long table (at the lower left in the photo below) and small circular tables further inside at left as well. I expected a coffee shop to open in the Mercer years ago so it’s good to finally see something open up over there. (Thanks to a reader comment about today’s opening.)

Spotted in the backside of Broadway Plaza slated to close for redevelopment for the next couple of years, I think this topiary is quite apt. Anyone know what animal this was?

Back in January I noted the Banana Republic remodel had begun in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and now there is a massive sign outside announcing that it will be opening next month in March.

1509 Cypress St, Walnut Creek
Back in December I noted that the French goods store Decors de France would be relocating to Cypress St. in downtown Walnut Creek and they are now open. If you are a fan of the French countryside this is a must-see. Their soap collection smells great, too.
