The program will feature the highly anticipated World Premiere of Red Shoes, choreographed by Diablo Ballet’s Resident Choreographer, Robert Dekkers.

Robert Dekkers new ballet, Red Shoes, is an imaginative interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless fairy tale. Set to the thrilling score by Academy Award nominated composer Philip Glass, the ballet explores the birth, evolution, and ultimate demise of the ego. Red Shoes will feature costumes designed by celebrity fashion designer, Cassidy Haley, who has created for P!nk and Fergie to name a few.

Trinity Center for the Homeless Relocates in Downtown Walnut Creek

Late last year we learned that an adult day care center would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek where Baja Fresh used to be, next to the Habit Burger Grill. It turns out it’s not an adult day care center at all but rather the Trinity Center for the homeless and working poor, which relocated a few blocks away. Note that they are closed on weekends.

Trinity Center offers a Safety Net of Basic Human Services, including:

Food, breakfast & hot lunch

Showers & Laundry

Clothing

Mail and Telephone Access

Referral Services

Help with benefit applications

Community

Trinity Center serves people who are homeless and those experiencing poverty. The Center is an opportunity for community and a safe place off the street.

Hops & Scotch Taproom & Whiskey Bar Opens at Avalon in Walnut Creek

After quite a wait the bar Hops & Scotch has opened in the Avalon apartment complex next to the Pleasant Hill BART station in Walnut Creek. In addition to 150 types of whiskey, cocktails and wine they also carry 40+ rotating beer taps. If you look closely at the photo below you can see the taps. The bottom photo shows the lcd screen featuring the available craft brews. They also offer small plates and have several TVs to catch the latest game. Personal to Political – Celebrating the African American Artists of Paulson Fontaine Press at Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek through June 24th

A new exhibit at the Bedford Gallery in downtown Walnut Creek, Personal to Political – Celebrating the African American Artists of Paulson Fontaine Press, is on display through March 25th.

From the exhibit website:

This exciting exhibition features works by 14 African American artists who have helped to shape the contemporary art conversation in the Bay Area and beyond. The show covers a wide range of prints, paintings, quilts, and sculptures, and includes an array of abstract and formal imagery. Narratives that speak to personal experiences and political perspectives are woven throughout. At the heart of this show is a Berkeley based fine art print studio—Paulson Fontaine Press—who over the past two decades has developed an unparalleled roster of internationally celebrated artists – artists like Martin Puryear , Kerry James Marshall, and the Gee’s Bend Quilters – who characterize the fresh perspectives that are today’s avant-garde.
