45 Crescent Dr, Pleasant Hill
Last September I noted that the men’s boutique Atlas moved within downtown Walnut Creek and now Atlas is expanding to downtown Pleasant Hill and adding a women’s component called Athena which will be opening in the clock tower building on Crescent Drive.
From the Downtown Pleasant Hill website:
Atlas & Athena understands who you are because we are you. We are the fashion leader that doesn’t rely on designer names and prices to define us. We offer trend-right styles that have the Northern Cal guy & gal in mind and we focus on a wearable collection that brings newness and excitement to your wardrobe. We know by having a polished, put-together look makes for a better you-whether work or play, new romance or weekend in Las Vegas, we offer complete looks in an easy to shop format and superior service.

1035 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill
A bit late but the independent record store Rasputin Music & DVDs opened at the corner of Contra Costa Blvd. and Taylor Blvd. in Pleasant Hill back in August. They left their previous Concord location due to Hobby Lobby taking over this spot. I dropped by recently and it’s much larger than I imagined. Very interesting place. Check out Claycord for more about the move back in August.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that Barnes & Noble, located in the Pleasant Hill Shopping Center will be closing this January to make room for Home Goods. Borders closed a couple of years ago in Pleasant Hill as well so what will the largest bookstore in Pleasant Hill be after Barnes & Noble closes? The closest nearby Barnes & Noble is in downtown Walnut Creek. More info also at Claycord.

100 Crescent Dr, Pleasant Hill
Back in July I noted that The Melt truck was spotted in downtown Lafayette and now according to Diablo Dish The Melt may be coming to Pleasant Hill to Crescent Dr, right next to Zachary’s Pizza and across from the Cinemark movie theater. According to the latest city council agenda The Melt is requesting a total of 31 outdoor seats. Check out The Melt’s menu here.
From their website:
Headquartered in San Francisco, California, THE MELT is simply “Grilled Cheese Happiness.” Currently operating 15+ locations throughout California, this fast casual eatery combines chef inspired, all natural, wholesome food with innovative online ordering technology in an eco friendly environment. The growth of THE MELT is fueled by a solid management team led by Flip Video founder Jonathan Kaplan and a top-tier board of directors including Ron Johnson, former head of retail operations at Apple; Mike Moritz and Bruce Dunlevie, two prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalists; and Michael Mina, a James Beard award winning chef and restaurateur. Visit melt.com for more information.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is opening soon according to a sign on the former Bally Total Fitness building in Pleasant HIll. If they are opening there I’m not sure what’s going where the Dome movie theater used to be, anyone know?

703 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill
Thanks to a reader for sending word that Nordstrom Rack will be opening next to Safeway in Pleasant Hill (near the Sunvalley Shopping Center) on September 12th.
From the Nordstrom Rack website:
Come early to celebrate
- At 8:00 am we will kick off our Rally at the Rock with music, breakfast treats and more
- Join us early for a chance to win one of 30 $100 gift cards
- Rule THE RACK: One lucky winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and early access to the store, beginning at 8:30am
- The first 1,000 shoppers who make a purchase wil receive a free reusable tote!
I peeked inside and although it’s not stocked yet it looks huge!

Personally what I find most interesting is that this Nordstrom Rack is located in Pleasant Hill and not Concord. Even the Nordstrom Rack gets it wrong as the new location states it’s in the Sunvalley Shopping Center in Concord, CA, but it lists the address as 703 Contra Costa Blvd in Pleasant Hill. When I checked out Google maps I see that the Sunvalley Shopping Center indeed is in Concord, but the border juts back out such that this location and Safeway next door are actually in Pleasant Hill. However according to the Sunvalley Shopping Center website, Safeway and Nordstrom Rack are listed there so it seems that these two stores are located in the Sunvalley Shopping Center but happen to be located outside the Concord border. Fascinating.

6:00pm | FreeOne of San Francisco’s premier party bands for over twenty years, this “interactive” eleven piece all-star group has gained a national reputation for their high energy performances, incredible musical variety, and “anything can happen” hi-jinx. The strengths of DMHP’s presentation are their overall sound and visual variety, musicianship, flexibility, and energy! With vast repertoire of over 600 songs, the band can “turn on a dime” musically and loves surprising their audiences. They might go from 40’s Glen Miller or jump jive swing to 2011’s “dance beat” or “Widespread Panic” independent; from 60’s Beatles and Motown to Reggae to Country to Sinatra to 70’s Disco / R & B to 80’s “New Wave” and AC/DC “Classic Rock” to 50’s Elvis to New Latin/Salsa to Broadway Show Ballads to “The Dave Mathews Band” to Hip Hop “Black Eyed Peas”!

Back in April I posted a question as to whether the beloved Dome movie theater in Pleasant Hill should be demolished and it turns out that it was demolished a couple of weeks later, to be replaced by a 2 story Dick’s Sporting Goods store. I dropped by recently and this is what it looks like now. Of all the stores that could have replaced the dome isn’t it appropriate it will be replaced by a store named Dick’s?
