Wednesday, September 14th – Sunday, October 9th, 2016Black. Muslim. Outsider. These are the labels Shakespeare’s most famous Moor has carried with him as he’s climbed the military ranks. Having survived battle after battle in faraway lands, Othello’s greatest tragedy lies in those closest to him: his trusted friend, his beloved wife—and himself. In his Cal Shakes directorial debut, artistic director, Eric Ting, will face our society’s fear of “the other” head on with this provocative investigation of Othello.

Wednesday, August 10th – Sunday, September 4th, 2016At one riotous lunch, Mrs. Clandon, a famed feminist author and lecturer, is accidentally reunited with her estranged husband, while her high-minded eldest daughter tries to stave off a smooth-talking dentist’s advances. Originally set at a stuffy seaside resort, director Lisa Peterson moves Shaw’s off-beat comedy out of the drawing room and into the Bay Area! Identities are confused, ideals are challenged, and mischief is afoot in this turn-of-the-century romantic farce. What could possibly happen? As a wise waiter continuously, and hilariously, observes, “You never can tell!”

Thanks to a reader for pointing out that a new cafe called Genuine Goodness, featuring baked goods, salads, soups and smoothies opened this week in Orinda where Village Pizza is located across from the Orinda library. The owners of the cafe previously used a commercial kitchen in Lafayette making food and smoothies for local Lamorinda schools. They will still make food and smoothies for schools but now have a space of their own to showcase their dishes. The gingerbread cake with lemon icing and apricot bars (see photos after the jump) were delicious! Check out their smoothies here. Their menu changes daily so check out their latest offerings on their Facebook page here.
From their website:
Genuine Goodness provides delicious, fresh and handcrafted Smoothies, Soups, Salads and Goodies made from all-natural, high-quality products. We seek organic, local and seasonal ingredients and provide gluten-free options when possible.
