On Monday we learned that anti-Muslim fliers were posted around the Joaquin Moraga middle school campus in Moraga but it wasn’t clear who posted it nor what the contents were. Thanks to a Facebook reader for pointing out this East Bay Times article which reports that they were posted by a current student and ‘depicted a still from the animated sitcom “Family Guy” that shows the cartoon character Porky Pig emerging from a drum emblazoned with the words “Muslim Looney Tunes,”’ Click here to see the still from the Family Guy Wiki.
Last Wednesday “inflammatory fliers about Muslims” were posted around the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate school in Moraga. According to the principal, “administrators and counselors visited all classrooms to address this issue.” It’s unclear whether they were posted by (former) students or adults.

Burger King has closed in the Rheem Valley shopping center in Moraga. According to a Design Review Board notice in the window it may be converted to a Starbucks coffee shop with a new outdoor seating area.
All the rain we’ve been having recently has turned the Lamorinda trail waterfall in Moraga into a real spectacle.

When I was growing up kids could dress up and accessorize for Halloween pretty much as they pleased. Times have changed and not allowing toy weapons has become commonplace. This Halloween, all schools in Moraga have decided to take the next step and ban clown costumes for Halloween. Although it’s not an official district decision, I wonder how the schools, independently, came to the decision to ban clown costumes. Has Moraga previously encountered clown scares that necessitated this?
What’ll it be next year, banning monster costumes? Plenty of kids are afraid of spiders. Is Spider-Man next? Will there be a list of acceptable Halloween costumes kids can choose from? Have any other local schools banned clown costumes?
