Nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe and by BAFTA, “Capernaum” is this month’s foreign language feature film at Mountain Shadow. It won the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2018. Lebanon-born Nadine Labaki directed the film and wrote the screenplay.
The film explores the abusive childhood of Zain who, by the age of 12, is in prison for a violent crime. He is released to pursue a lawsuit against his parents for “wrongful life.” “I wish I had never been born” has never been so true for him. It has been called “the most heart-wrenching but beautiful film I’ve ever seen.”
