Kindergarten immunization rates

With news that measles has infected Disneyland and is spreading throughout the country I decided to check out the immunization rates around Contra Costa which you can see here. As you can see in the above map, there are pockets of Walnut Creek among other cities that are rated as Highest risk (more than 10% of students not immunized because of Personal Belief Exemption). As more children end up not getting vaccinated the herd immunity loses effect that can cause those who are unable to get vaccinated for medical reasons or are too young/old, infected. Or is not that big of a deal? There is a Brady Bunch episode from 1969 where the kids all come down with a case of measles that didn’t seem very serious to me. See it here.

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow on Saturday so I suspect plenty of people will be celebrating by going to a restaurant, watching a movie, exchanging gifts etc. What do you plan to give or do with your significant other for Valentine’s Day?

This Saturday Pyramid Alehouse is hosting a comedy night in downtown Walnut Creek and that got me wondering what kind of comedy clubs are in Contra Costa. I’ve been to Cobb’s in San Francisco which I enjoyed a lot. Are there any local comedy clubs that you recommend? Who’s your favorite comedian? Recently I’ve been enjoying Louis C.K. and Amy Schumer.

The other day I was at a party when someone mentioned finding something next door. Then a few others chimed in about finding things on next door as well. I thought it was odd that so many people were finding useful things next door when it turns out they found it on the web site Nextdoor. Each micro-neighborhood has their own little website where neighbors can discuss things and offer things for trade etc. I signed up to see what’s going on and it does indeed look useful, but it felt strange having to enter my full name and complete address so I deactivated my account shortly after. So for today’s question of the day, do you use Nextdoor? Have you ever heard of it? Do you find it useful? Do the privacy implications concern you?

It has been raining nonstop here the past day with power outages and flooding throughout the bay area. How are you coping with all this rain? I cleaned out the gutters the night before and it’s not been too bad.
