Thanks to a reader for sending word that Locust Street Deli will be replaced by a new Japanese restaurant tentatively called Jun Japanese Bistro. Depending on how fast the new owner can get the process moving Locust Street Deli could be closing next month. I wouldn’t be surprised if the new restaurant featured yakitori rather than sushi. Stay tuned…
Broadway Plaza
The Tesla Showroom that replaced the Lacoste clothing store in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek had its grand opening this weekend. Having only ever seen a Tesla on the road it was interesting to check it out in more detail. In the back of the showroom they have the bottom frame on display (see photo below). Since the batteries are underneath the car, there is space in front for a second trunk which I found fascinating. There is also an option (which you can see in the red car) to put additional rear facing seats for small kids which would make me very nervous but according to a Tesla representative the back is reinforced better. Even if you’re not in the market for a $70,000 car I still recommend checking out this showroom to see the possibilities.

On 05/09/14 at approximately 1044 hours, a woman was walking westbound on Olympic Blvd near S. Main St. A suspect (Hispanic Male Adult in his 20’s) grabbed the woman’s purse and fled into the Plaza Escuela East parking garage and then fled in a white pick-up truck. There were two other Hispanic males in the vehicle.
The Walnut Creek Police Department received information a delivery truck driver was in the area and witnessed the theft. The witness is encouraged to contact the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.

The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself. This thought-provoking documentary features interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics, like Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson and Gloria Steinem. The film has been rated appropriate for ages 13 and up by CommonSense Media.

The owners of Panama Red Coffee Co. are bringing a new, yet-to-be-named cafe to the eclectic Yogurt Castle building at the corner of N. California Blvd. and Bonanza St. in downtown Walnut Creek. Due to the lack of interior space there will no be seating inside and in addition to coffee there will be baked goods made on-premises which sounds great. Stay tuned for updates…
Corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. & S. California Blvd, Walnut Creek
Many people have been noticing the construction going on in the former Marie Callender’s location at the corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and S. California Blvd. in Walnut Creek and according to several sources it looks like a bank will opening in this location. One Genova Deli employee mentioned that a cafe may be opening as well in part of the spot although I couldn’t confirm that. Stay tuned…
The Walnut Creek Route 4 Free Ride has relocated in Broadway Plaza. The new stop is, “located down Broadway Plaza Street, in front of Macy’s for Men”.

During those years he channeled his philosophy through his drawings. They, along with earlier sketches and song lyrics make up nearly the nearly 100 limited edition lithographs, serigraphs and copper etchings that will be on display. His artwork is both inspirational and generational. John leaves behind a potent message for future generations. These exhibits have not only been a forum to view John as an artist but also as a venue to raise funds and awareness for countless local charities. This exhibit will be benefitting Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. For the past 20+ years Yoko has brought this collection around the world as meeting place for Lennon, Beatle, peace, music, humanitarian, activist, lyricist, satirist and icon fans from all different walks of life.
