With the eagerly anticipated opening of the South American restaurant Sabores del Sur in Walnut Creek near the Pleasant Hill BART station this week, I checked out a preview party last week and as expected the food was delicious. The high ceilings and cheery decor make for a great spot to stop by for a bite to eat. I am not kidding when I say those alfajores cookies are delicious, not to mention the empanadas and pastel de choclo (Chliean casserole). I will definitely be back ASAP for more!
From their Facebook page:
Sabores del Sur (Spanish for “Flavors from the South”) is a Bay Area company specializing in catering for any event. Specialties include South American Empanadas and Alfajores.
Chef-owned and operated, Sabores del Sur uses only the freshest ingredients in all of our recipes. We emphasize organic, free trade and locally grown products. We take great pride in ensuring each dish is “made with love”—a philosphy Chef Guisell H. Osorio inherited while cooking side by side with her grandmother during her childhood in Chile.

The long anticipated wine tasting room Buon Vino opened in downtown Walnut Creek yesterday and right now they’re offering a selection of eight different Napa and Sonoma wines (six ounces for $10) for their grand opening. Those six ounces can be split any way so you could try three two ounce wines, or one six ounce glass of wine. You can buy bottles of wine there and no bottle is over $20.
Check out the choices below:
There are standing areas around the front of the store and in the back there is a gigantic table that’s available for hourly rentals that includes a couple of bottles of wine, and there’s a TV as well so according to the owner if you’re looking for a place to host a Bachelor/Bachelorette viewing party look no farther.
Plenty more photos after the jump…
Last month I posted some scuttlebutt that Madewell would be opening in Broadway Plaza and now it looks like fashion store Michael Kors will be opening in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek as well in the new section that will reopen in a couple of years.

Thanks to a reader for sending word about construction going on at Ajisai, the Japanese grill and sushi restaurant that closed back in January due to the owner not being able to renew their lease according to their Facebook page. Anyone know what’s going on here?

2:30pm | $51The Vogler Quartet, still featuring its four original members, was founded in 1985. In the 28 years since its foundation, it has secured a place for itself among the top chamber music ensembles, thanks to its great individual and joint musicianship, and has been a guest on nearly all the world‘s major concert platforms. It was the quartet‘s sensational success at the 1986 string quartet competition in Evian, France, where they won several prizes, that set the four musicians on the path to a great international career.

Located across the street from Target in downtown Walnut Creek is a new apartment complex being built by MIll Creek called the North Main Apartments which will contain 126 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Check out the features and amenities here. Interestingly there will be “electric car charging stations”. I like that washer and dryers are included as well.
From their website:
Mill Creek expands its presence in Northern California with the development of North Main Apartments in Walnut Creek, California. This luxury apartment community will comprise 126 apartment homes over a two-level podium on approximately 1.2 acres.
