Thanks to a reader for sending word that Açaí-Me Superfoods Café recently had a soft-opening in the Danville Livery in downtown Danville with the grand opening scheduled for March. Check out their menu here. I tried the Monkey Bowl and thought it was great. One difference I noticed compared to Vitality Bowls is they blend the acai with kale and flax. Check out a photo of the inside below. There is also a TV in the corner of the store.

China Paradise has been closed for several months on Hartz Ave in downtown Danville but a recent sign in the window indicates that a new restaurant called Yo’s on Hartz will be opening up in this spot. Stay tuned…
The historic Danville Hotel, Restaurant and Saloon on Hartz Ave. in downtown Danville is getting redeveloped and “replaced with approximately 35,000 square feet of new residential, retail and restaurant uses” according to the Town of Danville website:
The historic Danville Hotel structure and the McCauley House on Hartz Avenue will both be retained and renovated. Existing uses on the remainder of the 1.12 acre site will be replaced with approximately 35,000 square feet of new residential, retail and restaurant uses. The project will include 16 for-sale second story residential units, averaging 1,200 square feet in size.
Castle Companies, the current co-owner of the property, will be preparing more detailed project drawings for Design Review Board review over the next several months. This effort will be followed up by preparation of building and site improvement drawings for the planned construction in 2012.
Find out more about the project from the Danville Express here.

Diablo Dish reports that a new restaurant will be opening up by the end of February where the British pub The Crown used to be on Hartz Ave. in Danville. The owners also started Esin Restaurant in 1998 which is located nearby this new location (after relocating in 2008). The “gastropub concept” sounds great, can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Jersey Mike’s Subs opened a couple of weeks ago on Hartz Avenue in Danville. They have over 600 locations around the country and offer cold and hot subs, wraps and salads. Check out their menu here. Has anyone tried a sub here? What’s the best one?

The British pub The Crown is closing at the end of August in downtown Danville according to a sign outside the restaurant (see below). On August 25th they are having a sale of pub collectibles including this red English phone booth:
How cool is that?!

The other day I stopped by the pizza place Forge in Danville for a preview on Railroad Ave. They are located right next to, and accessible within Lunardi’s supermarket. The design turned out great as you can see by the photos:
Service begins this Thursday. Check out their menu here. My favorite pizza was the heirloom tomato pizza with roasted garlic pesto and smoked mozzarella. Yum!

Spotted in downtown Danville. One of the coolest company logos out there, the bike store California Pedaler. Check out the closeup:
I’m not one to gush about how good a restaurant is but the deli Domenico’s in Danville is possibly the best delicatessen in the East Bay if not the the entire western United States. Being originally from New York I’ve had my share of deli sandwiches and having eaten here numerous times I can say without a doubt that a Domenico’s sandwich is insanely good. It’s so good it’s actually ruined me when I order a sandwich almost anywhere else. I don’t know whether it’s the fresh ingredients, the aioli sauce they shmear on the sandwich or what, but whatever they make is incredibly delicious. You can check out their sandwich menu here and salads here. Has anyone eaten here? What’s your favorite sandwich or salad?
The only possible drawback is everyone else around the area knows how good it is as well so if you go during lunchtime be prepared for a line out the door. The sandwich makers really take their time making the sandwich which can cause delays. Domenico’s has been in business for 20 years now and in addition to sandwiches they also have salads, meats as well as sell wine, pasta and more.
From their website:
In 1993 Joseph Domenico Giacomini and his wife, Sue, opened Domenico’s Delicatessen in downtown Danville. Joe’s father, Leo, had owned a successful Bay Area Italian delicatessen business that Joe grew up in. Joe and Sue have carefully crafted Domenico’s by blending traditional delicatessen favorites with a signature California twist. Fresh and flavorful, with an emphasis on lower fat.
In additon to the deli there is also a cafe next door serving, “Neapolitan style pizza, hot and cold panini sandwiches, espresso, yogurt and, of course fabulous gelato.”
Check out a closeup of two of their sandwiches, yum!
Domenico’s is located at 682 Hartz Avenue in downtown Danville.
