From the Contra Costa Public Health Department:
Some Contra Costa residents and visitors may have been exposed to measles recently after a Contra Costa County resident visited several public venues while contagious.
“We have notified people in Contra Costa who were known to be in close contact to the case, but not every potential contact at a public venue can be identified. Anyone who visited the following locations during the indicated dates and times could have potentially been exposed to the measles virus and should check immunity status.” said Paul Leung, Communicable Disease Programs Chief with Contra Costa Public Health.

Artist Call for Downtown Walnut Creek Art Project:
Walnut Creek Downtownâs 2018 Community Service Day project will coordinate community artwork featured on the downtownâs 40 Big Belly waste bins.
WCD will conduct a public artist call to gather artwork which will be displayed in frames (31 7/16â w x 45â h) attached to the sides of the Big Bellyâs as well as the back of the paired units, if logical. Artists are encouraged to incorporate recycling messages into their colorful creations as the newest addition to the Cityâs public art program. The project will be funded by Contra Costa Countyâs Solid Waste Authorityâs Recycle Smart program. Selected artists will be acknowledged by having their artwork displayed on WCDâs website.
The deadline to submit artwork is August 6th, 11:59 pm
Label each submission with artist name and title of work
Artists should upload their submission via Dropbox by emailing their Dropbox link to services@walnutcreekdowntown.com
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Along with the new Apple store opening at Broadway Plaza tomorrow in downtown Walnut Creek are new electronic displays with advertisements on one side and a clickable store directory on the other. I wonder what operating system they’re running, not MacOS? Maybe Apple should start selling an embedded OS to compete with Linux… đ
Spotted at the Veranda shopping center in Concord. They also have ping pong đ, cornhole and other games where the ice skating rink used to be. Great idea.
Spotted at the new Todos Santos Development at the corner of Salvio St. and Galindo St. in Concord. This was the location of the Beede’s variety store. For more information check out this Claycord post. Does anyone know when this closed? Did you ever shop there?
Spotted in downtown Walnut Creek. I don’t know if the bike rider is a ventriloquist but I chuckled as I passed by.

Late last year we learned that an adult day care center would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek where Baja Fresh used to be, next to the Habit Burger Grill. It turns out it’s not an adult day care center at all but rather the Trinity Center for the homeless and working poor, which relocated a few blocks away. Note that they are closed on weekends.
From their website:
Trinity Center offers a Safety Net of Basic Human Services, including:
- Food, breakfast & hot lunch
- Showers & Laundry
- Clothing
- Mail and Telephone Access
- Referral Services
- Help with benefit applications
- Community
Trinity Center serves people who are homeless and those experiencing poverty. The Center is an opportunity for community and a safe place off the street.
