European Model Train Display:

Blackhawk Automotive Museum
3700 Blackhawk Plaza Circle, Danville
Friday, November 28th, 2014 – Sunday, January 4th, 2015

The 14th Annual Holiday Train Show at The Blackhawk Museum in Danville showcases the efforts of the Bay Area Chapter of the European Train Enthusiasts (ETE). Open from Friday November 28, through Sunday January 4th, this spectacular exhibit is a holiday MUST SEE for the entire family.

For over 23 years members of ETE have been constructing and operating a portable HO scale model railway showcasing scenes of Europe. Each of the many layout sections is expertly crafted by different members of the group. When combined they form a showplace for a fascinating and detailed miniature European journey.

The modern day scale electric locomotives actually receive their power from the overhead wires just as they do throughout Europe today. Many of the miniature steam locomotives puff simulated smoke and feature authentic chuffing sounds. Passenger trains feature lighting and scores of miniature passengers.

The trains are digitally controlled by a mico-computer which monitors train location, and controls prototypical railway signaling. This sophisticated system allows for automated running of several trains simultaneously. Each day freight and passengers trains from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy and other European counties transverse the layout.

Statistics about this year’s exhibit:

• over 850 square feet in area
• 24 straight and 8 curved interconnecting dioramas
• 93 meters (over 300 feet) of track
• more than 45 switches
• over 50 miniature buildings
• multiple tunnels and bridges
• hundreds of trees
• scores of autos and trucks
• Hundreds of miniature people and animals
• stations, villages, farms, vineyards, industries and castles
, though Sunday January 4th, this spectacular exhibit is a holiday
